Yesterday, WSOC-TV in Charlotte took a look at Mitt Romney’s time as head of Bain Capital. Their segment highlights the ad that President Obama’s campaign released this week featuring GST Steel—a company that was acquired and bankrupted by Romney’s company. Many of those employees were left without a job, without healthcare and without the retirement funds they earned and planned for. The company at the center of this controversy was headquartered right here in North Carolina.
Raleigh, NC - First, Thom Tillis gave his chief of staff Charles Thomas a pay raise equal to the salary of an average public school teacher, then, after Thomas was forced to resign his position due to an inappropriate relationship with a lobbyist, Tillis gave Thomas a "golden parachute" payment equal to the salary of a public school teaching assistant. While Governor Romney spent virtually no time campaigning in the Tar Heel State before the primary, his views and positions on important issues to North Carolinians are already familiar to us. Instead of moving our state forward by investing in a North Carolina for the next century, Romney has embraced the extreme Ryan budget, which drastically cuts education, research, worker training, and infrastructure – all to pay for more budget-busting tax cuts for the wealthy. Instead of fighting to make education more affordable for all, Romney would make the Department of Education “a heck of a lot smaller” and leave college students on their own to “shop around.”
From time to time the leader of the free world’s schedule changes. He’s a busy man. All reasonable people know that by now. North Carolina is and continues to be a top priority for President Obama and the Democratic Party. The President has been to our state numerous times and the First Lady will be speaking at graduation this weekend.
